Why We Invested in Telon

Legal teams are buying AI faster than they can figure out what to do with it, which is why we’re excited to announce our investment in Telon, a UK-headquartered company with delivery across the US, South Africa, and Argentina, building the activation layer for legal and contracting AI. The platforms get purchased, the contracts get signed, and then too often, the capability just sits there. Telon is closing that gap.
Lewis Bretts and Tom Mellor lived this problem before they built a company around it. They ran AI-enabled legal delivery together at some of the leading legacy ALSP’s and watched the same story play out again and again. Firms would buy a powerful platform, get excited about it, and then hit a wall. Not because the tech didn't work, but because nobody owned the messy middle part, turning "we have this tool" into "this tool is doing our work." That gap is what's been holding legal AI back, and it's exactly what Telon is built to fix.
Telon steps into a client's existing platform, embeds AI-native legal operators right inside the team, and takes responsibility for the outcome. Three pieces make this work:
Activate builds the playbooks and agents that get a client to real value fast.
Embed puts forward deployed lawyers and legal engineers inside legal teams so adoption happens from the inside.
Deliver is the outcomes engine, running the whole thing on the client's behalf and only pulling in a human when the work actually needs judgment.
Why does this matter? Because a platform being capable was never the hard part. The hard part is making it work inside an organization’s actual processes, quirks, and standards, and that takes someone willing to own it. Telon sells alongside the platforms instead of competing with them, so they walk in with warm intros and inherited trust instead of a cold pitch.
Lewis and Tom bring a rare combination of deep legal engineering chops, real relationships with the exact vendors they partner with, and the operational muscle to actually deliver at scale without falling apart. Few teams have built and sold this kind of work before, and even fewer have run the delivery side of it, too.
At The LegalTech Fund, we're always looking for the infrastructure that the next generation of legal work gets built on. Telon is exactly that. It's early, and we like it that way, the thesis is sharp and this is the team to prove it out.
Welcome to the portfolio, Telon. We're excited to build with Lewis, Tom, and the rest of the team.
