Why We Invested in Intelligent Legal Solutions

We are excited to announce our investment in Intelligent Legal Solutions (ILS), a company transforming how law firms that work with investment funds manage side letters and related compliance burdens. The current process is slow, error-prone, and often eats up lawyer time that could be devoted to higher-value work. ILS is removing that friction with software that automates key manual tasks, while keeping lawyers in control of review and risk.

The idea for ILS was born from direct experience, as co-founders Jack McCarthy and Fergus Plant lived this acute problem firsthand during their time in the investment fund practices at top-tier firms like Goodwin and Proskauer. They navigated the frustrating, error-prone, and inefficient status quo that defines post-close fund workflows. With the software expertise of co-founder, Stefano Benigni, ILS responded with ProVision: a tool designed to accelerate these workflows, reduce write-offs, improve team morale (by reducing burnout and repetitive drudgery), and improve quality.

ProVision automates extraction of key provisions and investor-data from documents, streamlines the MFN process (including managing election forms) and side letter drafting. The system is built to fit into existing workflows, giving law firms a product that doesn’t force them to change everything, but which drives up efficiency by as much as 90% in turnaround times. What used to take days or weeks can now often be handled much faster and with fewer errors. Because of these capabilities, ILS has quickly become the provider for some of the largest law firms' in the world, including notable names like Goodwin, Proskauer, Ropes & Gray, and several other top Am Law firms.
