I extend my gratitude for praising the ableness of 'Indian Advocates'. It is very true that though we are skilled, due to certain restrictions imposed on us by 'Indian Bar Council' regarding 'Advertisement' and 'Bilateral Agreements', we are unable to show-case our ability to the world. Hoping that these barriers will soon be removed so as to enable us to prove our mettle to the world.

Hi,

I didn't know how to reach you, but I wanted to let you know about our new online marketplace that really fits in well with your blog about the legal profession finally starting to embrace the technology revolution.

HireTrade, our new online marketplace connecting clients with legal professionals, is powered by the patent-pending HourlyValue Ratings System that helps to ensure clients get the best service for their money from the professionals they hire.

Rather than outsourcing some legal work overseas or using an agency to hire contract legal professionals in the U.S., law firms and businesses can use the revolutionary HireTrade marketplace to outsource legal work to qualified legal professionals in the U.S. and receive higher-quality work while also realizing cost savings.

HireTrade is an open market—law firms, businesses, and individuals can post legal projects and find professionals without having to pay any fees whatsoever to HireTrade. Additionally, if you choose, our optional HireTrade Connect service can be used to facilitate any engagement as well as help ensure you get better service from the professionals you hire.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

Thanks.
Hello,

I'm a business consultant and I have been given the responsibility of finding information and comparing key metrics, including pricing, of Legal Matter Management software/solutions.

This is software for the management of legal matters within corporate legal departments such as budgeting, auditing costs of outside council, etc.

Any information would be tremendously appreciated. If, for whatever reason this information is not available, please let me know whom I might contact to get a better understanding of what's out there. I can be contacted at 412-848-4757 or rcloeffler@comcast.net. Again, I would really appreciate your help.

Kindest regards,
Thank you for the blog about simplifying contracts. I agree with Graeme Colquhoun and Steven Weatherley that contracts can be simplified and are most often are so laborious that the business people will not even read them. Let us hope that the trend catches on.
I'd be surprised to see if Microsoft had anything more than just a simple scanning interface. Some of the batch processing and audit trail functions are specific to established vendors. I'd recommend getting in touch with a Share point provider as well.
I wish I had a good answer to you. I haven't done much research on that scenario. The current version of SharePoint can be used for document management, but in my experience, it is not easy to set it up to be very user-friendly. If your users are reasonably disciplined you may be able to use the current version effectively. If you are going to use SharePoint 2007 when it comes out my guess is that you'll be better of starting with SharePoint today than starting with something else and migrating later.
Another option might be to look at Interwoven's Worksite for SharePoint. I'd suggest checking with someone with more SharePoint expertise than I have.
Interesting David ... we are at a stage where we are looking at a Document Management solution and are utilising the current iteration of Sharepoint for Team collaboration sites.

Considering that Office 12 (Office 7 or whatever Microsoft ends up calling it) is probably a year away ( its already been delayed to 2007), do you think it would be a good idea to commence the Document Management on a small scale on the current Sharepoint and gradually move over to the new features when Office 12 becomes available??

Is there any info on what can really be acheived in terms of Document Management from the current Sharepoint??
Not sure what your rep was trying to pull. My 10 lawyer shop just got a bid on DealProof of $3500, plus $1100 for training initial launch. The 20% support figure is what we were quoted, however. I would go back to him with this.

David Munn saw a presentation at LegalTech that predicted Sharepoint is going to cause problems for Interwoven and Hummingbird. While I didn't see this presentation, I did speak on Sharepoint at Legaltech.

I think Microsoft does have a chance to cause disruption in the Legal DM market. They have to do a couple of things:
David,

Here is a link to a MS white paper on enterprise content management that gives a little insight into MSs strategy in this area. Based on what it says, I would be very nervous if I were Interwoven or Hummingbird.

http://www.microsoft.com/office/preview/ecmwhitepaper.mspx

I would be very interested in what you learn and if appropriate I would love to sit in on any presentation that you can get MS to give. Email is also a big concern for me and my IT dept.

One interesting thing I did glean from the white paper is that to get the real integration benefits of SP3, you will need to upgrade to Office 12. As you may know, Office 12 completely revamps the familiar Office interface and I am anticipating initial reluctance from our IT guys to implementing it given the amount of user adoption issues that will result.

As to Interwoven/SP integration, I have attended a joint presentation by MS and Interwoven on this. While it sounds very cool (they didn't show the product but talked about how documents are organized using a project or matter-centric model), I'm not going to be able to implement both.

Alan,

I agree with your current assessment of SharePoint for document management. IT loves it because of the cost, but the current version is clearly not useful as a legal document management system. It's much more useful for intranets and extranets.

The presenters on this program were from Thompson-Elite (I believe it was George May, VP West km) and Bowman and Brooke, Michael D. Cammack, Chief Information Officer.

We're hoping to get together with someone from Microsoft to get more information on the new features of SharePoint so we can better evaluate it as we plan our DM and RM strategies. For example how will SharePoint handle emails? Interwoven and Hummingbird seem to have well developed approaches to dealing with email, but I didn't hear anything in the program about SharePoint's approach to email management. However, the panelists did state that it will have records management tools.

If it turns out that even SharePoint 3 lacks adequate DM functionality, another option would be to use SharePoint in conjunction with a third-party product (such as Interwoven or, e.g., http://www.cmswire.com/cms/document-management/records-management-with-sharepoint-000448.php). That way, at least in theory, you could use the basic tool the rest of the company uses and still have functionality specific to the law department's needs, although you'd still have to pay for the third-party application.
